Where are my files stored?

At Bytescale, we understand that knowing where and how your files are stored is essential for ensuring the performance and security of your application.

Here’s a comprehensive overview of our storage options and how they work:

Built-in Storage

Files stored in Bytescale's built-in storage (default) are saved to an internally-managed AWS S3 bucket in the us-east-1 AWS region. This benefits users with the scalability and performance of AWS S3, without having to worry about provisioning and maintaining cloud infrastructure.

Data Security

All data stored in Bytescale's built-in storage is encrypted at rest and in transit:

  • AES-256 encryption is used at rest.
  • TLS v1.2 is used in transit.

Data Backup & Redundancy

Bytescale's built-in storage uses multi-AZ redundancy and continuous backups through internal versioning. By using Bytescale’s built-in storage, you get a secure, scalable, and highly-available storage solution with no setup, configuration, or maintenance required.

Compliance

Bytescale is SOC 2 compliant and GDPR compliant.

Please contact our friendly support team for our latest SOC 2 audit report, or if you require a signed Data Processing Addendum (DPA).

External Storage Support

Bytescale supports multiple external storage options.

You can use AWS S3, Cloudflare R2, DigitalOcean Spaces, Google Storage, or your own HTTP origin to serve files. Files stored externally can also be transformed and served through Bytescale's services.

Please refer to the documentation for each storage option for additional considerations.

Content Delivery Network (CDN)

All files are automatically served via the Bytescale CDN, which spans 90 cities across 47 countries. This minimizes latency and speeds up content delivery by caching content at locations close to your users.

Files may be temporarily cached in these locations, unless you disable caching on your requests.
